The KI for Optical Science and Technology (KIOST) was established with the purpose of developing new optical technologies to improve human lives through interdisciplinary and integrated research. Currently, 14 faculty members are actively participating in KIOST to perform interdisciplinary research based on innovative ideas that will change the world.

The research at KIOST is focused on:

  1. Specifying fundamental principles for optical light sources by using ultra-short femto second pulse lasers.
  2. Expanding the spectral bandwidth of the light sources over the whole broadband optical wave spectrum spanning from X-ray to Terahertz.
  3. Developing various application technologies in the fields of science, technology, and medicine by utilizing the extreme features provided by the broadband light sources.

 

In addition, the KI Center of Optics for Health Science (KICOHS) is located in KIOST, and is aiming to develop next-generation biomedical imaging technologies based on the technological convergence between core laboratories with state-of-the-art optical imaging techniques. KICOHS will pursue and accomplish research goals which can bring high-impact results combined with interdisciplinary research between optical imaging fields and specialized clinical issues.
